Words of Wisdom:

KEEPING HIM SAFE
When Khalid was 14, he took to the streets, and I remember one evening, he came home and I could look in his eyes and see that he had, you know, he had been doin' something. Smokin' weed. Smokin' this tree. Whatever. And I took Khalid and pulled him to me -- and he's, Khalid is the largest-built of all of my children, and I said, "Come here." And he is sitting on the sofa and I said, "Come here. I said here. On my lap, on my lap." Fourteen years old, almost six foot tall, and I held him here. I said, "Hold me." And I told him the story. "When you were born, you were starving to death. And every moment of every day for three weeks, I tried to figure out how to keep you alive. Every moment of every day, you sat on my lap." I said, "And right now, it looks to me like you are trying to die again, and I'm not going to have it."
